And the Oscar goes to….Sorry not you Mr. Pierce

Truth or Fiction?  That’s the question I had regarding game one of the NBA final, specifically Paul Pierce’s injury.  If you didn’t see it, Paul Pierce the “Grand Poobah of the Big Three”, in the 3rd quarter fell to the ground holding his knee.  Reeling in pain for what seemed like 72 hrs, it looked like he had just taken a throwing star to the knee cap, the crowd was silent.  Next thing you know, three guys were carrying him off in a wheelchair type move…his finals were done.   Eeeer, wait a minute, who’s that?  It’s Paul Pierce bounding down the gangway to thunderous cheers….

Paul did hurt his knee, strained meniscus, but the real truth was Paul Pierce pulled a Jim Carry-ish piece of over-acting out of his wahzoo all while performing on the biggest stage of his life.  He wanted to get noticed, to be in the realm with Michael Jordan’s epic performance while battling the flu, or Willis Reed’s return after doctors said he was done.  Both legendary performances but his Hamlet at the Garden forces me to give this cat a bad review. Here’s why:  I don’t root for thespians that play basketball; I watch the sport to see something like the Jordan or Reed performances, guys that defied the odds, who showed that their competitive spirit could change the scope of mind over matter.  That’s what makes legends Paul, not being a cry baby and coming back seemingly unharmed.   So with that, let me say sorry to Curly and Moe (Ray Allen or Kevin Garnett), that bit of Tom Foolery, has me cheering for West.
