Best Sports Town in America Is…

Living in Chi-town, the STL, and touring for Dave’s Detours, I know great sports towns! I’ve always enjoyed hitting the local pub in the port town where I’m staying and watching the fans cheer and/or cry over their beloved team…aka Cincy and the Bungles.  So with all this crying, what town offers up the most cheer vs jeer?  The clear winner year in and year out has to be Detroit!

Known as hockey town, and sometimes the murder capital of the United States, Detroit’s winning ways (by most of the franchises) keep this blue collar town on the map.  Now I’m not much of a hockey fan, but I’m aware that Detroit is hockey heaven so I’d much rather polish off a liter of Labatt’s than blog about them.    What makes a town and Detroit such a great sports town is the whole landscape of sport success.  While other towns often reflect on past glories, Detroit pulls a Madonna and reinvents itself every year.  Bad Boys, gave way to the old but new Pistons who have made it to the conference finals in five straight years.  Ty Cobb and Alan Trammel, moved over for Pudge and Sheffeild, just 2 yrs removed from the World Series, and the Lions aaaaahh, forget the Lions.  That still makes 3 out of 4 and pretty impressive all the same.   So congrats Detroit on once again being crowned the winner for the best sports town in America. Now all you have to do is lower homicides and it’s home sweet home.
